B-17 tail gun positions were equipped with two M2 Browning .50 caliber machine guns to defend against enemy fighter attacks. This short clip shows the tail guns firing during a training exercise. One 100th BG airman who was most familiar with gunnery training was S/Sgt Bruce Alshouse. After completing 25 combat missions, Alshouse returned back stateside and served as a gunnery instructor at Pyote Army Airfield in Texas helping to prepare airmen for combat duty aboard B-17s and B-29s. | 100th Bom
