They developed human brain organoids, tiny clumps of brain tissue grown from stem cells, that unexpectedly grew rudimentary eyes. These eye-like structures, called optic cups, contained both a lens and a retina, just like real human eyes. Even more astonishing, the mini-brains’ “eyes” were light-sensitive and could send signals to nearby brain tissue, mimic
