On August 12, 2015, a series of catastrophic explosions devastated the Binhai New Area in Tianjin, China. The disaster began with a fire at a Ruihai Logistics warehouse illegally storing over 11,000 tons of hazardous goods. As firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, the heat caused a container of dry nitrocellulose to spontaneously ignite, triggering the detonation of 800 tons of ammonium nitrate.
