US President-elect Donald Trump has named "big tech" critic Brendan Carr to lead the US communications regulator, after he takes office in January 2025. Carr has attacked what he sees as the censorship of conservative viewpoints by top social media firms other than X,

Brendan Carr, a critic of the Biden administration's telecom policies and Big Tech, is currently the top Republican on the FCC.

Carr has history with the FCC. He’s worked at the agency since 2012, including as its general counsel. Trump appointment Carr to commissioner in 2017, and he was renominated by President Joe Biden in 2023. As the senior most Republican commissioner, many expected Carr’s appointment.
