The Trump administration has asked for information including names and release dates within 30 days. Officials in California are fighting back.

The U.S. Justice Department asked California counties to provide lists of all non-U.S. citizen inmates in their jails, ratcheting up the Trump administration's challenge to sanctuary policies.

Attorney General Pam Bondi sent letters to several California sheriffs on Thursday requesting the names “of all inmates in their county jails who are not citizens of the United States, their crimes of arrest or conviction and their scheduled release dates.
