MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – Special election races are underway in parts of our viewing area. Polls opened this morning at 7 am. In Noxubee County, voters will be determining the outcome for three different races. Those include the Sheriff’s seat, the Coroner’s position, and the race for District 5 Election Commissioner.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear a case to determine whether a Mississippi state election law permitting ballots received after election day to be counted

Sixteen states, including Oregon, accept mail-in ballots that are postmarked by Election Day but arrive after. The Supreme Court will consider the legality of that practice.

Conservatives want mail-in ballots to be counted no later than Election Day. Illinois allows ballots postmarked or certified by Election Day to be counted up to 14 days after the election.
