The Yankees left-hander pulled out of the Midsummer Classic on Friday — and was replaced by teammate Carlos Rodón — due to him starting Saturday’s game against the Cubs, which would have had him pitching on two days of rest in the All-Star Game on Tuesday.
New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried’s blistered left index finger will be monitored throughout the All-Star break, according to the Associated Press.
Max Fried will always be the lefty who started Game 6 in the 2021 World Series, helping the Braves to their second Atlanta-era championship. He’ll always be a multi-time All-Star for the franchise, one of the most accomplished pitchers in the team’s history.
Gil was scheduled to throw 50 pitches on Sunday and then build up his pitch count in subsequent rehab appearances.

Chicago’s Matthew Boyd won a matchup of All-Star left-handers as Max Fried left early because of yet another blister on his pitching hand, and the Cubs stopped the New York Yankees’ five-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory.
Some of the best hitters on both teams – namely, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker and Michael Busch for the Cubs, and Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm for the Yankees – will have a platoon disadvantage.
Another Yankee is heading to the All-Star Game. With Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Max Fried already on the American League roster, Carlos Rodón was added on Friday. Rodón is actually taking the place of Fried on the active roster.
