Nearly 110 years ago, Santa visited children on Christmas in Wapakoneta after he finished delivering presents across the world. Invited by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1170 of Wapakoneta, the jolly man gave out treats. Santa shared cherished moments on Christmas with the local children at the Elks for at least 15 years.

Yvonne Zevola, treasurer of the local rec and ag and society, said the objective of the annual Christmas party is to bring joy to kids in the community.

“Working the room” at the Friendship House Christmas party was a lot of fun seeing the expressions of the residents when I addressed them by their names. Being a volunteer for five years I have come to know most all of them, and it made being Santa so much more rewarding.

Santa Claus coming to town for Christmas is not breaking news. His last stop being in Thompsontown might get a few ears to perk up. Santa’s got a few other stops to make as well before his big next. Some of those destinations are on this week’s list of things to do.

The City of North Bend is once again hosting Christmas on Main, a free community event featuring activities to celebrate the holiday season, including the city's Tree Lighting Ceremony and a visit with Santa. The event takes place on Saturday, Dec. 6.
