Damage from a fire has shut down Amtrak train service between New York Penn Station and areas south including Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.

A fire in a rail yard train car near New York’s Penn Station injured five people and disrupted service for many commuters early Friday, authorities said.

"There is significant damage and we are working on it," Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Gery Williams said.
