HOUSTON — The Federal Aviation Administration is warning of a ground delay at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) from 4 p.m. to 8:59 p.m. Saturday as the government shutdown drags on. The FAA said flights departing from Bush Airport are delayed on average by 42 minutes due to staffing issues.
Travelers at IAH and Hobby Airport should expect long security lines due to TSA staffing shortages. Arriving early and being prepared can help you breeze through security and stay on schedule.

Houston Airport Passengers Say They Waited in 4-Plus Hour Line for TSA amid Government Shutdown
In an advisory issued on Nov. 2, Houston Airports warned travelers to expect extended TSA wait times “until further notice.”
The potential delay comes just two days after Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport issued a ground stop Tuesday afternoon for the same reason. That ground stop lasted until 6 p.m., while a ground delay continued until 9 p.m., according to Houston Airports.

Houston's Bush Airport ranks #16 nationwide in tarmac wait times, study says
For anyone traveling soon out of IAH, the waiting game doesn't end inside the airport. Plus, with a shortage of air traffic controllers due to the government shutdown, there's a strong chance travelers will have to spend even more time on the tarmac.
At Bush Intercontinental Airport, only TSA checkpoints at Terminals A and E will be open for passengers, beginning at 4 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Fewer flights mean shorter lines at George Bush Intercontinental on Wednesday, but TSA waits could hit 45 minutes at IAH and 20 at Hobby.
